My story is not one I would call extraordinary but it’s one I am proud to tell.
Growing up I’ve always been quite shy, low in confidence, I smoked, drank a lot, ate the wrong foods and always had issues in my head about my body. I guess just like most teenage girls, I dreamt of finding the love of my life, having kids and living happily ever after.
I went traveling at 20 and met a guy, 5 years later we returned to Australia together but we didn’t work out. The strength I had to find to end that was so deep inside me. A year later I met my Pat, I had grown a lot in that last year and had started to actually love me.
I learnt I didn’t need any man to make me happy.
I needed to make me happy. Pat and I married 5 years later, had our first child a year later and our second a couple of years after that. I’ve been a stay at home Mum for 4 years now and I love it but I had lost “me”, I had put on about 24kg and I could hardly look in the mirror.
I woke up and decided enough was enough, we bought a treadmill and I started to run, then I researched a keto lifestyle (low carb high fat). i wrote down some goals. Number one being I want to lose 24kg. And another being I will enter a 10km run for 6 months time - I had actually never even run 5km let alone 10km - but I took some before photos of my body that night, stayed awake for hours researching what I can and can’t eat on the keto diet and started the next day!
I lost 15kg in 6 months and the following 6 months the 9kg. I ran my 10km and a year later I have ran 4 half marathons and just booked go run my first full marathon! I have an Instagram page called @eat.run.cook where I talk keto, running and good vibes and my only reason for it is to inspire others! I feel bloody amazing! I am 38 years old and I am the healthiest, happiest and fittest I have ever been.
I just wish I could feed every young girl and boy all the knowledge and happiness I have now, let them know it will and can be ok.
In fact it can be amazing. I’m a true believer that good things happen to good people, I have remained true to me and in that process I have found me!
Thanks for listening Sam, you are amazing, I love following your journey and I’m sure it’s not been easy but you shine through it all.
Love Anna x
